Spring 2025 Closing - USF Students

Atala Hall Closes to University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee residents on Friday, May 9 at noon!

All residents are expected to vacate their rooms 24 hours after their last exam or by Friday, May 9 at noon, whichever comes first. Requests for extended stays will not be considered. Please review all the move-out information on this page.

General Closing Information

  • Residents are expected to vacate Atala Hall within 24 hours of their last final exam or by Friday, May 9 at noon, whichever comes first
  • Limited carts and bins will be available during move-out. We recommend bringing your own cart based on this limited availability.  
  • Garbage should be taken to your floor's trash room as normal during move-out.

Completing your Check-Out

Attend Your Closing Floor Meeting

  • Residents must attend their designated closing floor meeting led by their RA.
    • Closing floor meetings for USF Students will begin the week of April 14
  • Attendance is required and will be recorded. If you miss your meeting, your RA will follow up with you individually.
  • RAs will post meeting dates and times on the floor bulletin boards.

Sign Up for Your Move-Out Room Check

  • After your floor meeting, you must sign up for a move-out room check with your RA.
  • Sign-up sheets will be posted outside RA doors and pre-filled with available 30-minute time slots.
  • If a listed time slot is not available for when you want to complete your move-out room check, please speak directly with your RA to coordinate a day/time.
  • Residents who do not sign up during the meeting must do so as soon as possible.
  • RAs will conduct additional outreach between prior to closing for those who have not signed up.

Complete Your Room Check-Out Checklist

  • Remove all personal belongings from your room. Any abandoned property will be disposed of after 30 days and will result in a checkout charge.
  • If you have items to donate, consider local donation centers.
  • Take your bike with you, or it will be disposed of.
  • Return all furniture to its original position. A fee may apply for unassembled or moved furniture.
  • Remove all posters, tape, nails, and hooks from walls, windows, and mirrors.
  • Clean your room thoroughly, including floors, appliances, bathrooms and common areas.
  • Take out all trash and place it in the appropriate dumpster or floor trash room.
  • Set your thermostat to 72°F and lower blinds to the open position.
  • If you are the first to check out from your room/apartment, have your roommate present if possible to clarify responsibility for any damages.
  • Take photos of your room’s condition for your records.
  • Update your forwarding address in the Housing Portal
  • Complete your move-out room check with your RA.

Failure to follow these steps may result in an improper checkout fee as well as applicable damage charges

Cart Checkout & Mail Service 

  • Carts will be available for check-out at the Information Desk during open hours. 
  • Mail will be available to residents during normal desk hours.
    • Don't forget to update your mail forwarding address in the Housing Portal!

Local Donation Centers 

Residents wishing to donate items such as clothing, furniture, appliances, etc., can drop off their items at one of the below donation centers near the university. Please call ahead to confirm the hours of operation.
