USF Week is an annual celebration of the university’s history and its ties with its community. A number of events are planned for the Sarasota-Manatee campus, including a bingo night; a luau marking the birthday of USF’s mascot, Rocky D. Bull; and the carnival featuring rides, food and games in the Sarasota-Manatee campus’s south parking lot.

Ukraine: One Year Later

SARasota-Manatee campus Professor Jody McBrien presents research on LGBTQIA+ refugees at CONFERENCE IN SLOVAKIA

Jody McBrien, a professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manatee campus, presented her research on LGBTQIA+ refugees to the Federation of Women’s Clubs Overseas at its Biennial Conference on March 25 in Bratislava, Slovakia.

McBrien’s research examines progress made by LGBTQIA+ refugees who participate in The Dream Academy, an online 10-week program created by Safe Place International that provides training and mentoring in social and emotional learning, post-traumatic stress counseling and career skills.

Cryptocurrency Conference

The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus in April is co-hosting a two-day conference examining the role of cryptocurrency and the future of global finance. The free program will feature presentations and panel discussion by academic, financial, governmental, legal and other experts, including a member of the U.S. Federal Reserve System’s Board of Governors and Australia’s ambassador to the United States.

HospitaBull 2023, an elegant dining event organized, prepared and served by students in the University of South Florida School of Hospitality and Tourism Management on the Sarasota-Manatee campus, raised more than $90,000 for scholarships and other programs.

2023 GOLDEN HERALD AWARDS

Four staff members from the University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manasota campus served as judges for the 2023 Golden Herald Awards, a prestigious prize that honors high school seniors in Manatee County for their service to their schools and to the community.

Volunteer judges evaluated finalists and their applications in 16 categories during interviews on March 25. The winners and honorable mentions will be announced April 13 during a ceremony at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota.

Inside USF: The Podcast — On the job since March 1, USF’s new chief academic officer, Prasant Mohapatra, brings extensive experience as a faculty member, researcher and administrator to his role as provost and executive vice president of academic affairs. In this episode, he discusses what attracted him to USF and offers his perspective on a variety of significant issues facing higher education nationally and in Florida. He also shares details about growing up in India, his family and his passions outside of work. Those include traveling, and he has enjoyed some unusual experiences – such as taking a ride on an ostrich.

Gopher Tortoise Week — Celebrate Gopher Tortoise Week with Edie Banner, an instructor in the biology program on the Sarasota-Manatee campus, and her student researchers, the "Tortoise Team." Take a habitat tour, engage with student research or participate in a Wikipedia edit-a-thon from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on April 10-13 in the Information Commons on the Sarasota-Manatee campus.

Admitted Students Day — Incoming freshmen admitted to the Sarasota-Manatee campus are invited to learn more about the enrollment process, ask questions and learn more about life as a Bull on April 29 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Selby Auditorium. RSVP now.

JGHC Summer Honors Institute: Mock Trial Intensive — The JGHC Summer Honors Institute: Mock Trial Intensive is now enrolling rising 10th, 11th and 12th grade students for Summer 2023. In a week-long session, collegiate mock trail competitors and current law students will support high school students as they learn the step by step process of court proceedings and gain knowledge and experience of advocacy, critical thinking, creative thinking, argument construction, basic understanding of the law as it relates to the courtroom, courtroom decorum, logic, reason, rhetoric and public speaking.
