Rocky D. Bull welcomed local rising fifth, sixth and seventh graders to the Sarasota-Manatee campus on June 13 for Camp at College, a free and fun-packed arts-integrated literary experience made possible with support from the Florida Center for Partnerships in Arts-Integrated Teaching, the Henson Fund, the Office of Admissions, the Judy Genshaft Honors College and the College of Education.
The four-day program immersed campers in engaging reading activities designed to enhance their literacy skills and creativity with support from local teaching artists, USF student mentors and Sarasota-Manatee campus faculty and staff.
"Combining the arts with reading cultivates multidimensional learning experiences that enhance comprehension, critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork,” said Denise Davis-Cotton, director of the Florida Center for PAInT. “Camp at College not only empowers students with valuable literacy skills, but it also inspires a lifelong passion for learning and creative expression.”
Campers took a field trip to the Tibbals Learning Center and Circus Museum at The Ringling and participated in an interactive, circus-themed showcase.
